Application FAQ

The connector is tiny, needs to be used in many links, the cost is small, and many companies produce connectors. For this reason, many people ignore the product of the connector, but it is often easy to cause subsequent power stations because of this inattentiveness. Failures occur frequently.

common problem:
(1) Contact resistance increases
The contact resistance of the connector directly affects the power generation efficiency of the power station, so "low contact resistance" is a must for photovoltaic connectors. In addition, too high contact resistance may also cause the connector to heat up and cause fire after overheating, which is also the cause of safety problems in many photovoltaic power plants. Tracing the source of these problems, the first layer was uncovered at the end of the power station installation. The investigation found that many power stations had issues with the operation of some connectors in the process of rushing to the construction period, which directly buried hidden dangers for the subsequent operation of the power station.
(2) Crimping problem
The most common manifestation of this problem is the unprofessional crimping tool. Some on-site workers directly use inferior or even general-purpose tools for crimping, which will cause poor crimping, such as bending the copper wire of the cable at the joint, some copper wires not being crimped in, and mistakenly pressed to the cable insulation layer, etc. Poor crimping: The consequences are directly related to the power plant's safety. Due to the blind pursuit of installation efficiency, crimping quality is degraded. If the engineering site cannot guarantee the quality of every crimp to rush work, coupled with the use of unprofessional tools, more problems will arise.

The skills of the installers themselves impact the level of connector installation. For this reason, Leader Solar recommends that you use professional tools and correct operation procedures, which will significantly improve the quality of the project.
(3) Connector inter-matching problem
According to the market survey of Leader Solar, many power stations have problems such as confusing use of various connector products, inter-plugging of connectors of different brands, junction boxes, combiner boxes, and inverters all using connectors of other brands. In addition, the connector matching problem is not considered.
So is this approach feasible?
In this regard, Leader Solar specifically asked Professor Zhang Hui, the vice president of China Photovoltaic Technology Association, and Professor Zhang made it clear that "a large part of the problem of connectors comes from mutual insertion, and we never recommend that connectors of different brands be inserted into each other. Furthermore, connectors of different brands cannot be inter-matched, and the contact resistance will increase if operated in that way. Therefore, the certification agency also stated that inter-matching is not allowed, and only products of the same series of the same manufacturer are allowed to be inter-matched."
Leader Solar also consulted the TÜV certification company, and the answer was that connector product between different brands could not be inter-matched. If they must be used, it is best to do a matching test in advance. However, in terms of technology, resistance, and arcing problems, there are hidden dangers in the inter-connection and mating of connectors. We have also done a lot of testing, and we do not recommend inter-connecting and mating because of problems.
Therefore, without considering the influence of production control factors, there are differences in the product tolerances of different companies. Furthermore, when the connectors of different brands are inserted into each other, there are significant hidden dangers, especially for large-scale power stations that use more connectors.
